SOLON - Augustin A. Thompkins of Euclid has been charged in a fatal crash that killed and hurt two others.

Officers saw a dark-colored SUV with no taillights swerving on I480 east. The officers stopped the vehicle on I 480 near the Green Rd overpass in Warrensville Hts. Officers had suspected the driver, 26-year-old Augustin Thompkins, of a possible OVI.

They requested officers from Warrensville Hts to the scene to investigate the alleged OVI. There was an adult woman in the backseat with two children. While waiting for Warrensville Hts officers to arrive, Thompkins drove away after being told to stop. The officers lost sight of the vehicle but attempted to find it on US 271 north.

Shortly afterward, a third officer noticed the SUV was traveling east on US 422 into Solon. As the officer was traveling in the opposite direction, he saw that the vehicle crashed on US 422.

The officer located the crashed car. Augustin A. Thompkins resisted arrest upon contact with the officer. Officers still made the arrest. The officers aided the injured woman as Solon Fire Department responded to the scene. The woman who was 26 and from South Euclid, was transported to an area hospital, where she died from her injuries. The two children also had injuries. A young boy and girl were also taken to an area hospital. They are in stable condition.
