(Parma) - Police say a speeding motorcycle rider was taken to the hospital after speeding past a Parma Police cruiser, and eventually crashing.
Parma Police say it happened early Friday morning. Their officer, going eastbound on Brookpark Road, was passed by a speeding 2008 Yamaha motorcycle. The officer did not know that the same motorcycle had been chased by Brook Park Police. Their officers stopped the chase at Chevrolet Blvd.
The Parma Police officer followed the motorcycle, putting on his overhead lights and siren. At Ridge Road, the motorcycle hit a moving vehicle. The driver, identified as Dave Merrick, 28, of Cleveland, lost control of the motorcycle, and it hit a curb, ejecting Merrick.
Merrick was taken by Parma EMS to MetroHealth. He was not wearing a helmet. Merrick has been charged with reckless operation and OVI.
