Greater Cleveland Sports Awards Winners

CLEVELAND –It was a night to remember as the “22nd Greater Cleveland Sports Awards” were held on Wednesday night at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. The event was hosted by Maria Taylor from NBC Sports in front over 1,300 guests and was heard live on Newsradio WTAM 1100.

The Professional Athlete of the Year Award went to Browns defensive end Myles Garrett who was not in attendance. The award was presented by Kolby Altman, Cleveland Cavaliers President of Basketball Operations and was accepted by Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, Browns rookie linebacker on behalf of Garrett.

Kenny Lofton, Cleveland baseball legend, joined Jensen Lewis, former Cleveland relief pitcher and current Bally Sports Ohio host, to present CC Sabathia with this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Watch CC Sabathia's "Lifetime Achievement" video HERE

Katie Nageotte, USA Olympic Gold Medalist, and Delante “Tiger” Johnson, USA Olympic Boxer, awarded the High School Athlete of the Year Awards presented by University Hospitals Sports Medicine to Drew Allar and Kathryn Randorf. Allar , who played quarterback at Medina High School was not in attendance. He had a spring practice at Penn State.  Randorf won two state championships as a member of Gilmour Academy’s volleyball team.

Cleveland State University’s Al Eichelberger, Men’s Basketball Forward, and Chris Kielsmeier, Head Women’s Basketball Coach, teamed up to present the Collegiate Athlete of the Year Awards Adelaide Aquilla and Alex Phillip.  Aquilla attends the Ohio State University and made the Olympic track and field team as a shot putter. Phillip won the NCAA Division III cross country championship.

Robbie Boyce from St. Ignatius High School was the recipient of the Cleveland Clinic Sports Medicine Courage Award. After being hospitalized for months after a rare brain seizure, Boyce was able to make it back on the baseball field. Watch his full story HERE

The “Best Moment in Cleveland Sports” was the 2021 NFL Draft.Browns rookie cornerback Greg Newsome II accepted the award on behalf of the Browns.
