DNA Test Reveals Cleveland Woman Conceived With Stranger's Sperm

A Cleveland woman has filed a lawsuit against a fertility doctor after a DNA genealogical test revealed he had used a stranger's sperm -- and not her father's -- to conceive her.

Jessica Harvey Galloway says she took a DNA test in hopes of finding distant relatives in Italy ahead of a planned trip to the country. However, when the results came back, she found she had none of her dad's Italian heritage in her DNA -- meaning the man who raised her is not her biological father. Apparently, the doctor who helped her parents conceive her used another man's sperm to do so.

On Wednesday, Galloway filed a lawsuit against the specialist, Dr. Nicholas Spirtos, and the Summa Health System in Akron. Galloway says although her dad supplied Spirtos' office with a sperm sample for the 1991 procedure, the doctor injected a stranger's sperm into her mother's uterus. "We take this allegation seriously and understand the impact this has on the family," says Summa rep Mike Bernstein of the suit, which seeks unspecified monetary damages.
