STREETSBORO - An early morning fire on Thursday claimed the life of a 57-year-old Streetsboro man who lived in the 1000 block of Gaynelle Avenue. The fire was discovered by police officers on routine patrol around 1:45 a.m. Streetsboro fire fighters arrived on scene within five minutes and they received mutual aid from the Kent, Mantua-Shalersville, Twinsburg and Reminderville departments but the home is a total loss.

Streetsboro Fire Chief Kevin Grimm said an interior fire attack was attempted but fire crews were pushed back by the heavy fire conditions and the partial collapse of the house. After the fire was knocked down, fire fighters did an initial search of the interior of the home and no bodies were found. The victim was found later when fire investigators began sifting through a large area of debris.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The victim has not yet been identified pending family notification.
