CLEVELAND, OH -- The Cleveland Indians gave the ball to their confident closer James Karinchak to shut things down in a 2-run ball game, but the Rays had other ideas. Former tribe third baseman Yandy Diaz led of the 9th with a home run over the left field wall to cut the deficit to one run. Brandon Lowe ripped a game tying RBI double on a sharp fly to center field to force extras. Tampa corner outfielder Austin Meadows hit the go-ahead game winning single on a line drive to left field, securing a 5-4 come from behind win over the Indians.

Franmil Reyes put the tribe ahead early on with a 3-run line drive homer to left field, coming right after an intentional walk to Jose Ramirez. Austin Hedges had the only other RBI for Cleveland, scoring Harold Ramirez on a sac fly to shallow right field.

The Indians and Rays will square off for game two of the series on Friday night. First pitch is set for 7:10 pm ET at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio.
