Husted Won't Run For Senate; Timken May Run

(Columbus) - Ohio Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted said in a statement Wednesday that he would not run for the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate seat being given up next year by Rob Portman, but Ohio Republican Party Chair Jane Timken says she will seriously consider running.

Husted, in his statement, said he felt he'd be more effective in his current role. Husted said that some day, he plans to run for Governor.

Timken told cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer she would be able to bring Republicans in Ohio together. She cited her relationship with county GOP chairs, and she feels she's been tested as a leader. She has been a staunch supporter of former President Donald Trump.

Timken lives in Stark County. Her husband, Tim, is former CEO of TimkenSteel, and they are members of a prominent Canton family.
