Amazon driver Juan Carlos Flores was making deliveries in a Houston neighborhood when he saw a baby carrier on the side of the road. He felt something wasn't right, so he went to check on it and found a newborn baby inside.
"When I saw that baby, I wanted to cry," Flores told KTRK. "How could someone have a heart to leave the child on the side of the road?"
Flores went to the closest home to see if they knew who the baby belonged to. The homeowner said the child wasn't his and brought the infant inside and called 911.
Police reviewed surveillance camera footage from nearby homes that showed the newborn being left in the street. They quickly realized that the child belonged to a mother who was the victim of a carjacking earlier in the day. Authorities said the woman left her car running while she went back to check that her front door was locked. As she stepped away from the vehicle, somebody jumped inside and drove away with her newborn.
The woman and her baby were reunited and were unharmed.
Authorities found her car abandoned nearby but have not identified the suspect. They have asked the public to come forward with any information they have about the carjacking.
