Cleveland, OH – Discount Drug Mart, Inc. an employee-owned pharmacy chain that started its roots in Elyria in 1969, has been tapped by the Governor’s Office in coordination with the Ohio Department of Health to administer COVID-19 vaccines developed by Pfizer and Moderna at its 76 pharmacies throughout Ohio.
More than 100,000 people, a number that continues to grow, have already registered for their vaccine at Discount Drug Mart as part of the Phase 1B portion of the state’s vaccination program, which targets Ohioans 65 and up.
“In most ways, it’s positive to see the high demand of people wanting to be vaccinated,” says Jason Briscoe, Director of Pharmacy Operations at Discount Drug Mart. “While supply is limited right now, more doses are on the way. Those who want the vaccine will get it, as early as this week for some and in the very near future for others.”
For years, Discount Drug Mart has been Ohio’s trusted Immunization Destination, providing its patients with a safe and convenient option for all immunizations. Of the 800 providers in Ohio activated for Phase 1B of the COVID-19 vaccination program, 200 of those are community pharmacies. Discount Drug Mart is proud to represent 76 of those community pharmacies.
“There is no doubt in our minds this is a tremendous opportunity for us as a community pharmacy, and being selected is directly associated with the exceptional patient care our team provides. We also recognize this as a tremendous responsibility and are determined to do our part in providing this vital vaccination for our patients, communities and OUR State,” says Briscoe.
The pharmacy chain has set up a dedicated COVID-19 vaccine website and Information Line to guide people through the process:
