(Akron) - The City of Akron changed in a big way on Tuesday when the Lebron James Family Foundation announced it had purchased the iconic Tangier Restaurant and Cabaret on West Market Street.
The charity is planning to renovate the building, with a sports complex, restaurants, shops, and more, going under the name of House 3-30. It will also house financial health resources for the families of children taking part in the I Promise program funded by the Foundation, and run by the Akron City Schools.
With this news also comes news that the once-popular entertainment venue is closing. Tangier opened in 1948, and over the years, hosted events, receptions, and entertainment by major performers, including Tina Turner, and The 4 Seasons.
The renovations are set to be complete by 2022.
