(Cleveland) - Moratoriums for disconnects from Cleveland Water and Cleveland Public Power have ended.
The city had put a hold on disconnects earlier this year due to the pandemic, which led to so many customers struggling financially. Now, that hold is over, and the utility companies can shut off service to residents due to nonpayment of bills.
A spokesperson for the United Way says they are expecting an increase in people calling for assistance with the coldest months of the year yet to come. They say there are programs that can offer assistance, but patience is a must.
Cleveland Public Power serves customers in scattered neighborhoods in the city, while Cleveland Water serves customers all over Northeast Ohio.
