Coast Guard Calls off Search for Overdue Boaters Near Cleveland

CLEVELAND, OH — UPDATE - It has been discovered the report below was a false alert and the individuals are safe with no reported injuries.

The Coast Guard is searching for two overdue boaters who departed 10

p.m., Friday, November 27, out of Edgewater, Ohio.

Matthew Skoniezny and Jimmy Yates departed in a 17-foot aluminum vessel and have not

returned. Sector Buffalo received the report 24 hours after the reported departure time.

Cleveland police have been contacted and active search is being conducted by Coast Guard

assets as well as law enforcement.

Coast Guard Sector Buffalo command center watch standers issued an Urgent Marine

Information Broadcast asking mariners with information to contact their closest Coast Guard unit

via VHF Channel 16 or by phone.
