(Cleveland) - If you're waiting for I-490 to reopen between I-77 and East 55th Street, you'll have to wait six months longer, but for a good reason.
The project to have I-490 run underneath East 55th, and then connect with the new Opportunity Corridor, has come in under cost. So, the Ohio Department of Transportation has made the decision to have the slope underneath East 55th be at a 3% grade, rather than a 5% grade.
The more gentle slope will make it easier for traffic to slow down to the Corridor's 35 MPH speed limit, as well as stop at the traffic light for access to East 55th. However, it will also take more excavation.
ODOT says, as a result, that stretch of I-490 should be open in November of 2021. The entire Opportunity Corridor to University Circle should be open by the Summer of 2022.
