(Elyria) - A pilot was able to escape a situation in Lorain County, in which there could have been a serious accident. It involved a runaway airplane.
The Lorain County Sheriff's Office says that on Tuesday, a pilot from LaGrange was fueling up his plane at the Elyria Airport. He then started up the plane. It was a single engine prop plane that's started manually by turning the propeller.
Suddenly, the plane broke away from the chocks around the wheels, and began to move forward, while the pilot was outside the plane. The plane hit the fuel pump and the above-ground fuel tank which stopped the plane. The pilot was injured, and taken to the hospital.
The sheriff's office is still investigating, and the incident has been reported to the National Traffic Safety Board, and the Federal Aviation Administration.
