(Akron) - If you looked at the Summit County Board of Elections Twitter feed on Monday, you might have seen a message questioning the severity of COVID-19
The post was made by Wayne Darlington, an employee of the Board of Elections, and Summit County's former Republican Party Chairman.
He admitted to the Akron Beacon Journal that he wrote the message. He re-posted a story from News 5, about U.S. Senator Mike Lee appearing in-person at the confirmation hearing for Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett, less than two weeks after Lee tested positive for COVID-19. Darlington wrote, "Seems virus isn't as lethal/debilitating/bad as liberal left news media & Chicken Little researchers would like America to believe."
Darlington apologized to the Beacon Journal, saying he thought the post would be on his own Twitter account, not the Board of Elections account. The tweet has since been taken down. Darlington says he is working from home because of a medial condition.
