Destination Cleveland Changes Brewery Passport Program Due to COVID-19

Cleveland - Destination Cleveland, the region’s destination marketing and management organization, announced Tuesday updates to its 2019-2020 Cleveland Brewery Passport program, as a result of the COVID-19 global pandemic.

As of July 1st, the passport program transitions to a digital app format from a paper booklet. Additionally, the program has been extended to Dec. 31st, 2020, from its original end date of June 30th.

Transitioning to a digital app will help protect the health and safety of patrons and brewery staff by eliminating the exchange of printed materials. The program extension is in response to the temporary closure of breweries during the State of Ohio’s Safe at Home order, which eliminated months for passport participants to obtain stamps.

The Cleveland Brewery Passport will live in the Destination Cleveland App, which can be downloaded for free in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Residents and visitors can make a purchase at 34 participating breweries around the Cleveland area to obtain digital stamps. With the updated digital format, participants simply “check in” at participating breweries through the app and then submit a photo of their purchase or receipt to obtain a digital stamp.

If residents or visitors have an existing passport booklet with stamps, they can transfer the stamps to the app and maintain their progress. Instructions on how to do that can be found on the Cleveland Brewery Passport webpage and in the Destination Cleveland app (as of July 1st).

To help to minimize the spread of COVID-19, the in-person prize redemption process at the Cleveland Visitors Center (currently on-hold) is also being reviewed. If participants have completed passport booklets they need to redeem for prizes at any level, they have until August 31, 2020, to mail the booklet to Destination Cleveland (334 Euclid Ave., Cleveland 44114). While supplies last, prizes will be mailed to those who submit their paper passport and to participants as they reach each of the three prize levels within the app.

The original three tiers of prizes – a Cleveland Brewery Passport-branded set of coasters for eight stamps, a branded pint glass for 20 stamps and a t-shirt showcasing the participating breweries and a contest entry for a weekend getaway in Cleveland for all 34 stamps – will remain for the extended program year while supplies last.
