Cleveland Police Looking for Persons of Interest in February Murder

Cleveland - Homicide Detectives are seeking the public’s help to identify the individuals considered persons of interest in the murder of Bennette Smith.

On February 19th, 2020 at approximately 4:20 am, officers responded to the area of Clermont Avenue and Larchmont Avenue by the train tracks to assist the Cleveland Division of Fire.

Firefighters received a call for a brush fire and upon arrival they extinguished a burning body. Preliminary information indicates that a passerby called in the fire. 

Members of the homicide unit along with the CCMEO responded to the scene for investigation. The victim could not be identified on scene due to being badly burned and partially dismembered. Members of the Narcotics Unit, Gang Impact Unit, Fifth District Detective Unit, Fire Arson Unit and State Fire Marshall were on scene to assist with the investigation. The Real Time Crime Center assisted in the investigation. This matter remains under investigation and the CCMEO will determine the cause and manner of death.
