(Cleveland) - During these days of social distancing, restaurants in the city of Cleveland have been allowed to set up extra tables in parking lots, on sidewalks, and even in the street. However, you just can't plop down some tables.
Restaurant owners must get a city permit for temporary outdoor seating, and the city's rules must be followed. Such permits are valid until November 1, 2020, but can be revoked if the restaurant owner doesn't comply with the rules.
Applications for Temporary Expansion Areas have to include detailed plans, drawn to scale, showing the number and locastion of tables, chairs, and umbrellas. If tents, generators, and other elements are needed, they would also rquire a permit.
Spacing of tables must be six feet apart.
The expanded areas must also have the proper barriers between customers and people walking or driving by, and those barriers must be removable at the end of the business day.If necessary, the city can provide traffic barriers.
