Cuyahoga County continues to vastly lead the state in the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases. (43 Cases in Cuyahoga excluding Cleveland). But why does the number continue to grow for Cuyahoga County?

Dr. Heidi Gullett, Medical Director for The Cuyahoga County Board of Health, said that continual increase in documented cases can be attributed to the prevalence of testing sites throughout the county. She explained, the hospital system in the area worked quickly with a private business that works with the Center for Disease Control to get testing here.“we have had the most testing capacity out of all the other counties in the state,” Gullett said during a briefing on Covid-19 Friday morning.

According to Gullett, area hospitals including University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, Metrohealth Medical Center and the Cleveland Clinic have all stepped up, coming on board with testing sites. She claims, when there is an increase in testing, there will likely be more confirmed cases.Gullett notes that just because Cuyahoga County has the most confirmed cases, it doesn’t mean there are not similar number of cases in other parts of the state, they just don’t have the testing capacity Cuyahoga County has.

Gullett also pointed out concern about bias against Asian-Americans because of the Coronavirus, and she demands that any racism or discrimination be stopped right away.
