Cleveland - Early Tuesday morning, members of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) arrested 19-year-old Shane Barker, a suspect in two separate kidnapping incidents.
On October 20th, 2019, Barker attacked a 61-year-old woman near the Meadow Ridge Picnic area in the Brookside Reservation.
Three days later Barker attacked a 41-year-old woman in the same location. In both instances Barker followed the victims along a hiking trail, attacked them, and threw both to the ground. Both woman were able to escape from Barker and report the incident to police.
The NOVFTF located Barker near West 30th and Seymour Avenue. That's when officers followed Barker in a vehicle and were able to conduct a traffic stop in the area of Hyde Ave and West 43rd Street, where they arrested Barker without any incident.
U.S. Marshal Peter Elliott stated, “The Cleveland Metro Parks Police worked diligently to identify this violent suspect and as soon as he was identified the task force went to work to locate and arrest him. He is a danger to the safety of our community and the city of Cleveland is safer with him behind bars.”
If any member of the public has information related to criminal incidents associated with Shane Barker they are encouraged to call police.
