Westlake Police Blottter: Hit-Skip, Burglaries and OVI

On 10/18/19 at approx 8:40P an officer stopped a vehicle on I-90 in the area of Sharon Dr for a license plate violation.The female passenger was found to have active felony warrants for child support out of Seneca County.She was arrested for the warrants.Upon being booked in the Westlake jail, a pill was located in the prisoner’s property.The 43yo Toledo resident denied knowledge of the pill.Seneca County picked up the female from the jail.Westlake charges are pending depending on the lab analysis of the pill.

On 10/18/19 at about 11PM officers responded to a report of hit-skip crash at Crocker and Detroit Rds.A grey Mercedes left the scene of the accident.Officers located the suspect car in the area of Detroit and Dover.The driver of the Mercedes admitted to being involved in an accident but could not explain why he left the scene.Officers noted that he appeared to be intoxicated.The 28yo Rocky River resident was field tested and arrested for OVI.One of the occupants of the other vehicle involved in the collision was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.The OVI suspect refused a breath test so his license was suspended.He was charged with OVI, hit-skip and failure to maintain assured clear distance.

On 10/20/19 at approx. 5:45PM WPD received a report of a burglary.A resident on Hummingbird Cir arrived home to find that someone had forcibly entered the home.Officers did not find anyone still inside.The perpetrator(s) took jewelry and credit cards.Investigators are following up on leads.

On 10/22/19 at approx. 10AM a Westlake resident responded to the station to report a fraud.The victim had posted an advertisement online looking for a roommate to split the rent.She was contacted via email and began correspondence with the prospective roommate.The victim received a check via FedEx but did not discover it was fraudulent before she began to disperse the money.The victim was out more than $2500.Unfortunately, all of the names and email addresses used by the suspect appear to be fake as well.

On 10/23/19 at approx. 8:20PM WPD received a call of a possible OVI from a concerned citizen.The suspect vehicle was “all over the road and hit the curb a few times.”A WPD officer stopped the car on Westwood at Center Ridge Rd.Upon speaking with the male operator, the officer noted that he showed signs of impairment including the fact that his eyelids were barely open.Another “clue” the officer noted was that the male had nitrous oxide canisters on his lap.The male was field tested and arrested for OVI.Upon his arrest, it was found that the 26yo North Ridgeville resident was also in possession of over 80 suspected oxycodone pills.A prescription was not located.The driver refused a breath test at the Westlake jail.He was charged with felony possession of drugs and OVI with recommendations for grand jury charges for abusing harmful intoxicants.
