Jurors Find Akron Man Guilty of Murder

Akron - Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh announced today that a Summit County jury found Kennae Baker, 21, of Everton Avenue in Akron, guilty of shooting 25-year-old D’Andre Pete to death in June of 2018.

Jurors found Baker guilty of the following charges:

  • Aggravated Murder with a Firearm Specification –a special felony
  • Two Counts of Murder with Firearm Specifications – special felonies
  • Two Counts of Felonious Assault with Firearm Specifications – felonies of the 2nd degree

On June 13, 2018, Baker went to the Akron apartment of D’Andre Pete and his girlfriend, 24-year-old Jenna Smith. According to investigators, Baker tried to rob the couple and fired a shot at Pete which struck a glass coffee table next to Smith. As Smith ran out of the apartment, Baker shot Pete in the chest, killing him.

Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Alison McCarty is scheduled to sentence Baker on June 27th at 9am.
