Uniontown Teen Pleads Guilty to Attempting to Rape Young Girl

AKRON – Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh announced today that Sage Smerk, 19, of Mayfair Road in Uniontown, pled guilty to a number of charges, including attempting to rape a young girl.

Smerk pled guilty to the following charges:

  • Attempted Rape – a felony of the 2nd degree
  • Felonious Assault – a felony of the 1st degree
  • Failure to Comply – a felony of the 3rd degree

The charges are related to an incident last October involving Smerk and the young girl, whom Smerk was babysitting at the time. Smerk left the child home alone and then took off from police when officers attempted to pull him over. The felonious assault and failure to comply charges are related to the ensuing police chase.

Following his guilty plea, Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Alison Breaux sentenced Smerk to 12 years in prison. Judge Breaux also designated Smerk a Tier III sex offender. Once released from prison, Smerk will have to register with the local sheriff every 90 days for the rest of his life.
