New Cleveland cop in trouble after his criminal history discovered

Cleveland - Cleveland Police have placed a newly-sworn officer on restricted duty, after they learned he had a criminal history.

38-year-old Shawn Simmons was part of the 141st graduating class of Cleveland's Police Academy.

But department officials say he has a felony conviction, and served time at a prison in Norway.

A spokesperson for the department says he didn't indicate that on his employment application, and a criminal background check failed to turn it up.

The Internal Affairs Department is investigating.
