Mentor Police Looking For Suspect In Attempted And Actual Car Thefts

(Mentor) - Police say that on Thursday night, a man tried to get into the car of a woman pumping gas, then ten minutes later, an armed man got away with an SUV taken from another gas station.

The first incident happened about 8:30 p.m. A man tried to get into the car of a woman pumping gas at the shell at 7408 Mentor Ave. The car was locked, so the man left in a black or dark purple Cadillac SUV with a burnt out passenger side taillight. The only description being given for this suspect is that he was black.

About ten minutes later, a man was pumping gas at the Speedway at 7745 Reynolds Rd. A man wearing a mask and holding a handgun came up to the car's owner and demanded he hand over the key. That vehicle was a gray 2013 Ford Edge, Ohio plate HQK9941.

Mentor Police have not determined if the same person was responsible for both incidents, but police believe the incidents are related.
