(Cleveland) - Firefighters in Akron spent the dangerous cold Wednesday morning, as they fought a fire at a house
in the Kenwood neighborhood, near the intersection of 18th street SW and Iona Avenue.
A mother and her small children, aged 5, 7 and 10, were killed in the fire.
The house was already engulfed when firefighters arrived. They made several attempts to get firefighters inside the house
to attempt rescues, but the extreme heat of the fire had already made the structure too unstable. The four victims have not yet
been publicly identified.
Reportedly, an adult male was able to escape the flames before firefighters arrived.
Due to the extreme cold, an Akron RTA bus went off service and staged at the fire scene, to give firefighters a place
to warm themselves at times as they battled the blaze.
