Freddie Kitchens to lead the Brown next season

Cleveland Browns

(Cuyahoga County) - The Cleveland Browns have a new head coach. Offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens was promoted today and will serve as the team's ninth head coach.

Kitchens started out the year as a running backs coach. Gregg Williams, who served as interim head coach, will not return to the Browns.

Hue Jackson was fired from the Cleveland Browns mid-season, prompting the search for a new leader.Kitchens has no previous head coaching experience, but his work with the Brown's offense and quarterback Baker Mayfield put him ahead of the other six candidates interviewed by the team.

Under Kitchen's leadership, Mayfield threw 19 of his NFL rookie record 27 touchdown passes while removing any doubt that he could be the sought after franchise quarterback that has eluded the Browns since their return to the league.
