A protest over Cuyahoga County Jail deaths

Cuyahoga County Jail protest

(Cleveland) - Protesters gathered in front of the Justice Center demanding action regarding 8 deaths at the Cuyahoga County Jail.

They demanded a full investigation, and want those responsible to be punished.

In 2018, U.S. Marshals issued a report calling jail conditions inhumane and unconstitutional.

Their finding contend the jail is understaffed, with a lack of access to mental health care.

The Marshals say between June and October, 7 county inmates died, with 3 taking their own lives. Fifty-five other prisoners attempted suicide.

The FBI is conducting a civil rights investigation of the jail.

On December 30, 2018, Brenden Kiekisz became with 8th inmate to die. A family attorney said that Kiekisz suffered from mental illnesses and had previously tried to commit suicide.
