Man Arrested In Lakewood For Reported Tie To Florida Murders

Lakewood - We now know the name of the man arrested in Lakewood Thursday who could be responsible for multiple homicides in Florida.

On January 3rd, Lakewood Police Department received information from the Tarpon Springs Florida Police Department that a suspect from a triple homicide in their city might be in Lakewood. Information was further developed from our Automated License Plate Readers that a vehicle stolen in relation to their crime had been recorded in Lakewood. Further investigation by the Lakewood Police Department resulted in locating the vehicle at 1573 Newman Avenue in Lakewood.

Surveillance was established by the Lakewood Police Department. Further information was developed that the suspects two children, 3 and 2 years old, were in the home with him. With the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force, the FBI’s Northern Ohio Law Enforcement Task Force, and the Westshore Enforcement Bureau SWAT team, surveillance continued until 730pm when the suspect exited the home and was taken into custody without incident. His two children were transported, uninjured, to Cuyahoga County Children  and Family Services.

Taken into custody for Receiving Stolen Property and a Domestic Violence warrant from the Broadview Heights Police Department was 25-year-old Shelby Svensen.

Investigators from the Tarpon Springs Police Department will be in Lakewood today in furtherance of their investigation. No court dates have been set for Svensen at this time.

The Tarpon Springs Police Department will be holding a news conference at their facility at 2:00pm.
