Police warn against celebratory gunfire on NYE

Cleveland - Cleveland city leaders are once again reminding the public not to fire off their weapons at midnight on New Year's Eve.

"In any area, but especially in a densely populated urban area like Cleveland, the consequences of celebrating New Year’s Eve or any other occasion with a gun can be devastating.

The intention may be a celebratory shot toward the sky, but the consequences of that moment can be disastrous for a neighbor or someone blocks away, causing injury or death."

Celebratory fireworks are also illegal, and City Hall points out that they can also be dangerous, sparking fires that can quickly get out of control.

Police will be patrolling New Year's Eve, on the lookout for scofflaws who choose to bring the New Year in with an illegal bang.
