Elementary School Playground Goes Up In Flames

Lorain - Lorain firefighters put out a playground fire at a local elementary school Wednesday that was believed to be intentionally set.

Lorain Fire responded to a blaze at Palm Elementary around 5 p.m.They said the fire was contained to the corner play-set used by students and was extinguished quickly.

The playground equipment, however, has been deemed a total loss and will be removed. The school district does say it has plans to rebuild the playground next spring.  

Surveillance footage of the incident has been reviewed and the individuals suspected of starting the fire have been identified, reportedly as two middle-school aged children. 

"We need our parents to instill in our kids the rules of fire safety", says Lorain Schools Administrator Eric Bonzar. 

Lorain Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
