One Dead, Baby Injured, As Police Chase Ends In Crash

(Parma, OH) A fatal accident at Ridge and Pearl in Parma. A shoplifting suspect fleeing a Giant Eagle Supermarket was killed, when his vehicle smashed into a garbage truck and burst into flames. The suspect's 5 month old daughter, and the child's grandmother were also in the car, and were injured. They were rushed to MetroHealth Medical Center. The driver of the garbage truck was also hurt and hospitalized. Two police officers suffered minor injuries trying to rescue the people in the car. The crash happened during a police chase at 5:15 a.m. The deceased suspect is identified as 36 year old Robert Jones of Cleveland. Parma Police Sgt. Dan Ciryak maintains officers would have terminated the chase if they had known a child was inside. Ciryak says Jones had no warrants or priors, and they have no idea why he fled, putting lives in danger. Ciryak contends, if jones had pulled over, he might have only received a summons
