Medina County JDC to Host Art Experience

Medina - The Medina County Juvenile Detention Center will host its second annual Art Experience event on Thursday, September 27, 2018, from 3pm – 7pm.

More than 100 pieces of art, created by detained youth, will be on display. Select pieces will be available for auction to raise funds for ongoing art therapy for youth there, as well as for The Children’s Center of Medina County. The theme for this year’s art therapy is; “Shoot for the Moon – Even if You Miss You Will Land Among the Stars”.

While select pieces of art will be up for auction during the Detention Center’s Art Experience event, additional pieces will be live auctioned at The Children’s Center’s 4th Annual Art With a Heart for Children Auction and Benefit to be held on Friday, November 9th, at the Blue Heron Event Center (3227 Blue Heron Trace, Medina). The Children’s Center will retain 50% of those proceeds and donate 50% to the Detention Center to fund continued art therapy for detained youth. For more information on The Children’s Center’s event, please call 330.764.8891 or go to www.medinacountychildrenscenter.org.

Art-based programs have been shown to be effective in promoting positive youth development, addressing social skills, interpersonal communication and problem solving, as well as increasing creativity, critical thinking, and emotional management. The art therapy is facilitated by community volunteer Sharon Borror and the center's mental health clinicians, with the assistance of others who donate their time.

The Detention Center’s Art Experience will take place in the gymnasium (655 Independence Dr., Medina) and will be open to the public on September 27, 2017, from 3:00pm to 7:00pm.
