Police Vet, Hospitalized For Heat Exhaustion, Passes Away

CLEVELAND - A veteran Cleveland Police officer hospitalized since Monday, after collapsing from heat exhaustion, has passed away.

Patrol Officer Vu Nguyen died Friday night at the Cleveland Clinic, leaving behind his wife, two daughters and an extensive family.

The 25-year law enforcement veteran, collapsed during an agility test, training to join a k-9 unit.

In 2015, Nguyen was recognized by the city and police department, when he helped save the life of an infant girl.

It is still unclear what caused Nguyen to collapse, for an officer who otherwise appeared in good health.
