44 Years In Prison For Man Who Shot Police Officers

By Ken Robinson

(Painesville) - The man who admitted shooting and wounding two police officers at a Lake County car dealership will be in prison the next 44 years.

Timothy Schmidt was sentenced Thursday in Lake County Common Pleas Court.  He had entered in a plea bargain in March.

Last September, Schmidt got into a confrontation with employees of Classic BMW on SOM Center Road in Willoughby Hills.  Police were called in.

Two Willoughby Hills officers were shot and wounded.  They are back on the job after months of recovery.

As part of the plea bargain, charges against Schmidt were lowered from Attempted Murder to Felonious Assault.
