Our Building Evacuated Due To Smoke

(Independence) - We usually report the news; it's not very often we make it, but that's what happened Monday morning.

The building at 6200 Oak Tree Boulevard in Independence, which is home to the studios of WTAM 1100, had to be evacuated for almost an hour because of a smell of smoke that seems to have originated from our building's basement.

While fire crews from Independence, Cuyahoga Heights, Brooklyn Heights and Seven Hills checked out the building, the entire staff of WTAM 1100 evacuated the building.  While we were outside, we were running a "Best of Triv."  The other iHeartMedia Cleveland radio stations - Majic 105.7, WGAR, WMMS, Kiss 96.5, The Lake, and ALT 99.1, also went to contingency plans. some with alternate programming.

After a hour, people who work on the air were allowed back into the building.

Independence Fire has not yet confirmed what caused the smoke.
