(Cleveland) - Nine flu-related deaths were reported for Week 6 of the 2017-18 flu season by the Cuyahoga County Board of Health. The total reported number of deaths for the season is 30.
The latest victims are:
Cleveland female 2 years old
Euclid female 57 years old
Cleveland female 58 years old
Cleveland female 66 years old
Cleveland male 76 years old
Olmsted Falls male 82 years old
East Cleveland male 84 years old
North Royalton male 87 years old
Westlake female 91 years old
The Board of Health reports that so far this flu season there have been:
- 1,597 flu-related hospitalizations for the season to date - the highest seasonal total since reporting began in 2009-2010
- Week 6 shows seasonal high for emergency room visits for fever and flu-like illness - 4.7% of emergency room visits were due to flu-like illness
- Week 6 shows seasonal high for over-the-counter sales for pediatric products related to illness
Residents are still urged to get their flu shots if they haven't done so already. Against the current strain vaccinations may be up to 65 percent effective.
