Update on deadly shooting, carjacking spree

Cleveland - A 27-year-old man is in custody, accused of shooting to death a 20-year-old man, and committing at least six carjackings before being arrested in Lakewood.

Police say it all began around 9:00AM Saturday on East 156th street, when a 20-year-old man was found shot in the head in the lobby of an apartment building.

Police say the suspect then tried to carjack a woman at a gas station nearby, but she drove off.He fired at her, then carjacked another vehicle.

At the East 55th Street Marina, the gunman carjacked a third car.

Lakewood police say they received a call from the Metroparks Rangers around 9:32AM about a possible carjacking.

Rangers were treating a female victim with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Police say the woman's Hyundai Sonata was spotted on Sloane Avenue, abandoned.

The suspect then reportedly stole a 2017 Dodge Ram pickup which had been parked with the engine running.

Moments later, that pickup was found abandoned in front of the Marine Towers East building in the 125-hundred block of Edgewater Drive.

Police say the gunman was then seen driving a red Dodge Caliber through the closed garage doors of the building.

They say he stole that vehicle from a 65-year-old woman after knocking her to the ground.

Officers were able to box him in on Lake Avenue, and the suspect was arrested without incident, and turned over to Cleveland police.

Metroparks Rangers say Edgewater Park is closed while police complete their investigation.

Police have not yet released any names.

The investigation is continuing.
