(Downtown) - The Greater Cleveland Salvation Army kicked off it's 2017 Red Kettle Campaign at US Bank Plaza in Playhouse Square.
They offered complimentary hot chocolate and donuts to passersby, as the Salvation Army Brass Band performed carols to celebrate the season.
Major Lurline-Kay Johnson says they are hoping to help a lot of people this Christmas, and year round with after school programs for children, along with emergency food and shelter assistance.
Johnson says they have 1,000 more people in need compared to last year.
The Salvation Army has set of goal of collecting $730-thousand dollars. There will be about 110 kettle sites around northeast Ohio.
