Cleveland double killer escapes death penalty

Courtoom

(Downtown) - A Cleveland man is spending the rest of his life in prison for two murders.

Slatter Howell III pleaded guilty to killing a Cleveland firefighter. It was a high profile case back in 2013.

Theodore Wright Jr. was gunned down while driving his SUV, and crashed into a utility pole at Harvard and East 71st, he died at the scene.

Howell is also convicted of killing Babul Saha during a gas station robbery on Granger Road.

Howell was a member of the Young Felons Gang, an offshoot of the infamous Heartless Felons Gang.

Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Daniel Gaul rejected Howell's excuse, that he was raised in poverty in Cleveland's inner city, and needed to sell drugs to get by.
