(PARMA) - Parma police say a 4-year-old little boy who shot himself Thursday afternoon has died. At approximately 3:10 pm, the Parma Police Department received a 911 call about a child with an injury to his head in the 6600 block of Brownfield Drive. When officers arrived they found the child with a single gunshot wound to the head. Parma Fire Department paramedics responded and took the child to Metro Hospital where he later died.
Parma Police detectives said there were other family members home at the time of shooting and they cooperated with investigators. The incident occurred in the driveway of the home inside of a vehicle owned by a family member of the child. It appears that the child gained possession of a firearm that was in the car at the time and appears to have accidentally shot himself with it. Police believe that the shooting was an accident and no foul play is suspected. The investigation is ongoing.
