(Cleveland) - Tomislav Mihaljevic is the new CEO and president of the Cleveland Clinic hospital system.
He will assume the position on January 1st, and has worked for the Clinic since 2004.
The 53 year old physician made a name for himself as a heart surgeon, specializing in minimally invasive and robotically assisted cardiac operations.
Dr. Mihaljevec is a native of Croatia and is a naturalized U.S. citizen. He replaces Dr. Toby Cosgrove who will be staying on as an adviser.
Since 2015, Dr. Mihaljevic has served as CEO of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, overseeing the hospital’s strategy and operations as the first US multispecialty hospital to be replicated outside of North America, including directly managing the hospital’s Patient Experience and Strategy & Business Development programs.
“Though healthcare is in the midst of a major transformation, Cleveland Clinic is very well positioned for the future,” Dr. Mihaljevic said. “Our ongoing success will hinge on our ability to maintain high-quality outcomes, while reducing healthcare costs, encouraging innovation, and improving access and affordability for patients.”
