(Elyria) -- An Elyria native is one of the U.S. Navy sailors killed when their ship crashed with a Japanese cargo vessel.
Navy officials say the body of 37-year-old Fire Controlman First Class Gary Rehm Jr. was found Sunday in a heavily-damaged section of the USS Fitzgerald.
Rehm was one of seven sailors unaccounted for after the collision this past weekend. All seven were found and identified after the Fitzgerald was able to return to port with the help of tugboats.
An investigation is underway into the cause of the crash.
The Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports Rehm was three months away from retirement from the Navy.
