Another time capsule was found on Monday where the Robert E. Lee monument once stood in Richmond, Virginia. Officials, including Virginia Governor Ralph Northam believe that this capsule was the one they have been searching months for.
On Monday, workers finished removing the pedestal for a statue of the Confederate General. There is speculation that the most recently discovered capsule had been buried since 1887, and could contain up to 60 artifacts of the Confederacy, as well as a photo of former US President Abraham Lincoln in his coffin. Governor Northam has announced that this capsule will be opened today at 1:00 PM. He also tweeted a picture of x-rays showing what appears to be “coins, books, buttons, and ammunition from the Civil War.”
Earlier this month, officials found and opened a different time capsule that contained three “water-damaged” books,” along with an envelope and a silver coin.
