Super Typhoon Rai, also known as Odette, has killed at least 375 people in the Philippines since it struck on Thursday, December 16th. Classified at Category 5 strength, Rai had winds measured between 120-150 miles per hour.

Authorities have estimated at least 500 people injured, and nearly 60 reported missing. However many residents may be unaccounted for, in wake of hundreds of thousands evacuating before the storm struck. As a result, authorities have launched rescue efforts throughout the hardest-hit areas in the Philippines.

Hundreds of residents have reportedly lost their homes, and according to Richard Gordon, chair of the Philippines Red Cross, many do not have power, communication, or water.

Super Typhoon Rai’s damage has been compared to Typhoon Haiyan, which in 2013, killed up to 10,000 people in the Philippines.
