Ex-Minneapolis Police officer Derek Chauvin has pleaded guilty to federal charges of violating civil rights against both George Floyd in 2020, and a 14-year-old boy in 2017 (who remains anonymous), respectively. Chauvin originally pleaded not guilty in September, along with the three other officers involved in the murder of George Floyd: Thomas Lane, Tou Thao, and J. Alexander Kueng.

Chauvin could receive a 25-year sentence as part of the plea agreement. However, it would likely be served concurrently with his second- and third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter charges from April’s conviction. Chauvin began a 22.5-year sentence this summer for kneeling on Floyd’s neck for roughly nine minutes on May 25, 2020, which led to Floyd’s death.
