Jim Douglas was one of nearly 100 workers at an Amazon factory in Mayfield, Kentucky that a tornado destroyed over the weekend.
Douglas, who has two children, said that he was trapped under 15-20 feet of debris of the factory that he worked at for two years. He described difficulty breathing, being unable to see, and hearing others “screaming out for help” while pinned down for four hours. Douglas said that at one point he wanted the pain to end, “praying that god would take [him].” However, Douglas was able to communicate with another trapped co-worker before rescuers found and freed both, but said that rescuers had to use “heavy machinery.”
Douglas is recovering, and this picture shows him standing for the first time since being rescued from the debris.
