A series of tornadoes over the weekend has killed at least 80 people in Kentucky, according to Governor Andy Beshear. These tornadoes have traveled at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour, including one that set a 96-year-old record in Kentucky for distance traveled; up to 227 miles.
Search and recovery efforts are underway, but he expects this figure to eclipse 100. Many residents could still be missing, while thousands are believed to have lost their homes.
Governor Beshear has activated the National Guard, President Joe Biden has approved assistance, and Ohio Task Force 1 will assist recovery efforts in Kentucky.
Tornadoes also ripped through Arkansas, Illinois, Mississippi, Missouri, and Tennessee.
