Cleveland Indians Feat Los Angeles Angels 7-2

The Tribe defeated the Los Angeles Angels, 7-2, in front of a sold-out crowd at Tempe Diablo Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Indians have won 8 of their last 12 Cactus League games.

Cleveland got on the board in the first frame with back-to-back sacrifice flies from 1B JAKE BAUERS and LF JORDAN LUPLOW. CF OSCAR MERCADO (2-3) extended the Tribe lead with an RBI-double in the 4th, coming around to score on an error. Mercado is hitting .444 (16-39) this spring with three doubles, a triple, three home runs and nine RBI. C ROBERTO PEREZ (3-3, 2B R) drove in a run in the 5th with an RBI-single and is now hitting .290 (9-31) this spring. The Indians added two more runs in the 8th on a solo home run by LF BRANDON BARNES (3rd of spring) and an RBI-double by 2B MIKE FREEMAN.

RHP MIKE CLEVINGER (2-0, 2.79) earned the win in his second start (3rd appearance) of the spring, allowing two runs on two hits while striking out four (2R/1ER, 1BB). RHP ALEX WILSON (1SO), RHP JON EDWARDS (1H), RHP ADAM CIMBER (1H, 1SO), RHP A.J. COLE (2SO) and RHP MATT SOLTER (1H) all worked scoreless innings in relief. Edwards has worked 7.1 scoreless innings this spring (7G, 4H, 2BB, 10SO).

The Indians will be the visitors against the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday afternoon at Goodyear Ballpark (1:05PM MT/4:05PM ET). RHP COREY KLUBER (0-0, 7.36) will take the mound for his second start of the spring against RHP LUIS CASTILLO (0-2, 17.36) of the Reds. The game will be broadcast on SportsTime Ohio, WTAM 1100 and the Indians Radio Network.
