The Tribe completed a 2019 Cactus League sweep (3 games) of the Colorado Rockies, winning 9-3 on Thursday afternoon at Goodyear Ballpark. The victory was highlighted by 5.0 no-hit innings by RHP SHANE BIEBER (5.0IP, 2BB, 8SO) and a grand slam off the bat of CF/RF DANIEL JOHNSON (1-2, HR, 4RBI, R).
LF JORDAN LUPLOW (1-3, 2B, 3RBI) broke open a scoreless game with a bases-clearing 3-run double in the 4th inning. Cleveland added a pair in the 5th with a 2-run homer from C ROBERT PEREZ (1-3, HR, 2RBI, R), his second home run in as many days. Johnson put the game out of reach with his grand slam in the 6th. Acquired this offseason in a trade with Washington, Johnson is tied for the team lead in RBI (9) and has five extra-base hits (2 2B, 3B, 2HR). DH HANLEY RAMIREZ (2-3, R) recorded his first multi-hit game of the spring and has now hit safely in his last four games, batting .417 (5-12, 2 2B, 4RBI, R) over that span.
In his first spring with the Major League club, Bieber has allowed just one run over his four starts (2-1, 0.64 ERA, 14.0IP, 3H, 2BB, 17SO). Cleveland relievers held the Rockies to four additional hits with LHP OLIVER PEREZ and RHP DAN OTERO (1SO) working scoreless innings.
Cleveland will hit the road on Friday afternoon to take on the Texas Rangers at Surprise Stadium (1:05PM MT/4:05PM ET). RHP CARLOS CARRASCO (1-0, 6.00) is scheduled to make his second start of the spring against RHP JASON HAMMEL (1-0, 1.93) of the Rangers. The game will be broadcast on WTAM 1100 and the Indians Radio Network.
